2025 Student Spotlights - Courtney Wilson - Speech Language Pathology

Master of Arts in Speech Language Pathology graduate Courtney Wilson was a star in her department. In addition to interning at the Ӱ Speech Language Clinic, ABC Unified School District, and Thrive Speech & Feeding Therapy in Torance, Courtney also found time to pursue her other passions of drawing, painting, and working at her job as a stage manager at a rave. To say the least, Courtney has many passions.
“While my lifelong interest in world languages and linguistics initially attracted me to pursuing an education in Speech-Language Pathology, I quickly learned the field is much broader than I could have guessed,” Courtney says. “Drawing from my roots as someone from an immigrant family, I hope to use my clinical knowledge to provide thorough and differential bilingual services to populations who may not always be met with cultural humility. Furthermore, I seek to serve my gender-diverse siblings within the LGBTQ community by providing accessible and compassionate gender-affirming voice therapy.”
Courtney says that her time at Ӱ has shown her that there is no “one way” or “right one path” to go about life.
“I took two and a half years away from school before going back for my master’s degree, and I do not regret it at all. While some of my classmates opted to power through their degrees back-to-back, others have gone through complete career shifts to go back to school. What I’ve learned is that every journey brings unique and necessary perspectives to the field. I am very lucky to be surrounded by colleagues from so many backgrounds and experiences.”
Courtney would like to thank all of her fellow “SLPs-to-be” who she says have inspired her endlessly.
“From the beginning, the stress of our studies brought us closer. I would not have half of the clinical skills and perspectives I have today without connecting with the brilliant minds of each and every one of them.”
